Get help with costs and internet access
If costs are making it difficult to apply or attend an interview, these services may be able to help. Check eligibility before paying for anything.
Travel and interview costs
If you have a Universal Credit work coach, ask about support for necessary job expenses you cannot afford, such as interview travel or clothing. Ask what can be approved before you spend money.
Where: start with your Jobcentre or Universal Credit contact. Explain the expense, date and why you need help. A decision depends on your circumstances.
Interview clothing and coaching
Smart Works offers free coaching and interview clothing support for eligible women and some non-binary people who connect with its service. Its current criteria include age 16 or over and being unemployed or on a zero-hours contract.
Where: UK centres and virtual appointments. You need a referral from an organisation supporting you. Ask your work coach or support organisation, then check the centre’s appointment arrangements.
Mobile data and getting online
The National Databank provides free mobile data through participating local organisations across the UK. Eligibility includes being 18 or over, living in a low-income household and having insufficient internet access or being unable to afford data.
Where: a local participating hub, not a direct application to Get Quantum. Check availability and what the hub needs you to bring.
Childcare support
Different childcare schemes have different rules. Use the GOV.UK guide to check options for your circumstances and UK nation. If childcare costs stop you attending an interview, ask your work coach or local employment support service whether help is available before booking.
What to ask a support service
- Am I eligible, and does this cover my area?
- Do I need a referral or approval before spending?
- What documents should I bring?
- Is the support free, a reimbursement or something I would repay?
Get Quantum lists services and does not make funding decisions or take applications for them.
